Top 5 Best Chocolate in Vancouver

Published by:

Daniel Le Chocolat Belge Canadian

Looking for delicious chocolate in Vancouver? We got you covered, here’s our list of the best chocolate in Vancouver :p

(1) Beta5 chocolates

Beta5 Chocolates is one of Vancouver’s most infamous artisan chocolatier for good reason. This award winning chocolate shop nestled in an industrial area of Strathcona by Main Street skytrain station, Beta5 Chocolates is truly a hole-in-the wall.

The chocolates along with an array of various sweets and pastries are exquisite. Their inspiration comes from their locality and they’re more unique than Vancouver’s ethnic diversity. I dare say you can’t find these chocolates anywhere else in Vancouver or Canada for that matter. Their chocolates are true works of art with much thought and inspiration into each signature chocolates development at Beta5.

Beta5’s brand of local chocolates stands by taste, complexity and ethics which is why they use only direct trade chocolates (better than fair-trade, more expensive too). We also appreciate their emphasis on local, organic, and natural ingredients with their chocolates. Fair warning that the prices are not your Hershey’s chocolate bar or Purdy’s for that matter. A bar of chocolate costs $9. Their cream puffs rings in at $5.  (Their chocolate really does show the amount of thought, intent, and creativity with each piece to reflect the industrial and beautiful natural landscape of Vancouver – you’ll notice their design also holds true to their name, Beta5 as seen with the look of their chocolate bars much like those molecule diagrams you see. Hope I’m not sounding too much like an art critic here.)

Things to try: Cream puffs is a MUST try here. They have an “Award-Winning Signature Chocolates” consisting of 12 of their award winning chocolates as the name implies.

Their name comes from the crystal structure of a perfectly tempered chocolate. They said it best here, “careful alignment of the BETA5 matrix results in our chocolates’ distinctive shine and crisp snap.”

(2) Daniel’s Chocolate: Daniel’s Chocolate is considered a staple in Vancouver as far as fine Belgium chocolates are concerned. Out of his love for chocolate, Daniel, has been making chocolates in Vancouver since 1981. Originally hailing from Belgium, he sticks zealously to only original Belgium chocolate making techniques and the absence of preservative or artificial flavorings which is what makes Daniel’s chocolate so delicious.

Their chocolates range from the classic truffles to unique creations like passion fruit ganache. If you’re looking to taste authentic Belgium chocolates in Vancouver then Daniel’s Chocolate is where you go. It’s actually called Daniel Le Chocolate Belge but Daniel’s Chocolate is more memorable when you’re caught up in bliss with the taste of their smooth and creamy milk chocolate bars. First tasted Daniel’s Chocolates almost 9 years ago and it’s as good now as it was then. (well maybe a little better back in 2007).

(3) Rogers Chocolate: Rogers’ Chocolates is the definition of BC born business steeped in heritage. They stay true to their extensive BC history since 1885 while continuing to innovate and improve with the times. Their chocolates are some of the BEST chocolates in Vancouver with head chocolatier, Cornell Idu, certified in Belgium is constantly innovating and testing to bring forth the best chocolate creations true to the Rogers’ Chocolates brand and history. It’s all made in BC with sustainable cocoa.

What we love about Rogers’ Chocolates besides their tastefully decadent chocolates is their commitment to contributing to their community. Every year Rogers’ Chocolates makes donations in products and monetary gifts to local non-profit organizations such as Tim Hortons Camp day (if you read this website enough, you know how much we enjoy Tim Hortons – Canadian). YMCA, and Firefighters. They are even in our free Vancouver city walking tour to welcome visitors to Vancouver.

Rogers’ Chocolates is well deserving to be noted as one of the BEST chocolates in Vancouver. If you’re in the area (and even if you’re not), it’s worth while getting some chocolates at Rogers’ Chocolates. Not only is it fairly priced, high quality chocolates but they care about the Vancouver community. Their philosophy is to make contributions economically, socially, and environmentally.  Get their Cashew Chews and Victoria Creams.

Ps. If you’re not in their locality, you can mail order or purchase their chocolates online! As we mentioned, staying true to their history (quality, tasty chocolates) while keeping up with the times.

(4) ChocolaTas: ChocolaTas is the brainchild of Wim Tas and Veve Tas. The couple together conceptualized opening a chocolate store from their humble beginnings, making chocolates in their home. Wim was trained by Maison Wittamer in Brussels, Belgium who is also the exclusive supplier of chocolate to Belgium Royalty. Want a taste of Belgium Royalty? ChocolaTas may be that! Since opening in 2002, ChocolaTas has been serving the local BC community with an emphasis on local and fresh ingredients to their chocolates.

Their store is located in Granville Island and features various unique ganache such as Darjeeling & Lychee or Pepper & Mango. ChocolaTas is also known for their salted caramel chocolates. It also has won a few awards at various chocolate competitions. It’s worth a try after you’ve gotten the top 3!

(5) Charlie Chocolate Factory: Charlie Chocolate Factory has an open-concept to their chocolate factory; you can see how they make their chocolates through several windows. Family owned and established in Burnaby, BC since 1970.

Charlie Chocolate Factory is not the best chocolates in Vancouver but they have a REAL chocolate fountain in their Burnaby location; it’s an experience in itself and worth checking out. It was once of the first chocolates I remembered since arriving in Vancouver besides Daniel’s Chocolates. The rice crisp chocolates are pretty good too.

Special Mention: These didn’t quite make it onto the list but still worth a mention.

Royce Chocolate: I remember seeing these in Japan at Narita airport (they have it at HND as well) and it was quite a unique chocolate. They have now arrived in Vancouver! (at 3X the price in Japan!). You’ll find this in Richmond Centre by a booth near Shoppers Drug Mart. They don’t keep long though and must be kept refrigerated unlike most other chocolates (the Nama chocolates do, not the chocolate bars)

Address: 6551 No 3 Rd, Richmond, BC V6Y 2B6

Coconama Chocolate: Suggested by a reader on VancityAsks.com Facebook Page. This chocolate store is in North Vancouver but well deserving to be mentioned.

Best Vancouver Real Estate Agents

Published by:

Vancouver Real Estate Charlie Kiers

Finding the right real estate agent in Vancouver…

Picking the right real estate agent is a critical decision. Whether you’re buying or selling your home, you’re typically dealing with transactions upwards of 300,000.  You need a reliable Vancouver real estate agent. It is very easy to be misled by bad advice of real estate agents resulting in significant financial losses. (Beyond the licensing there is little quality control or practice to standardize practice of individual brokers, it’s a rather fluid market.)

It’s undeniable that integrity should be a required trait with real estate agents but unfortunately you’ll come across your fair share of real estate agents who only care about their pockets. It seems all too common for real estate agents to provide advice and post listings to their advantage. When there are thousands of commissions on the line, unfortunately some individuals put aside their values.

There are many ways that a real estate agent can be evaluated. You want a realtor who’s experienced with the Vancouver community hence familiar with your property and showing it. You also want a Vancouver realtor who’s professionally connected making it easier to sell or buy your Vancouver home. Among other things you may want a real estate agent who’s able to market your property beyond listing it. These are all worthy considerations when trying to find a real estate agent in Vancouver but in my humble opinion, what tops the list is their character and integrity. This is further highlighted by the recent scandals with New Coast Realty. We’ve still considered the points mentioned above and more in our deep reaching inquiry to find the best realtors in Vancouver; the best our city has to offer.

What we looked for in a Vancouver real estate agent:

This is why we’ve set forth to finding a list of the best real estate agents in Vancouver. The list consist mostly of realtor members in Vancouver who have portrayed excellence in their craft and importantly integrity with business dealings. These are people who have a record of integrity and a reputation to hold, people whom you can trust with your business and real estate transactions. Whether you’re looking to buy a home in Vancouver or sell a home in Vancouver, I’d suggest you approach either of these realtors to find one that can help you best. Integrity should be rewarded, don’t you think?

Without further ado, here’s our round up of the best Vancouver real estate agents. If you’re looking to buy or sell a home in Vancouver, these are good bets you can take. (Honesty and integrity is always important but especially cannot be understated when looking for a real estate agent Vancouver)

5 Good Vancouver Realtors you can count on:

1) Tim Wray: Tim Wray is an all around nice guy Tim Wray real estate(but nice guys don’t finish last.) Tim carries a friendly and approachable demeanor backed with years of experience. Tim relies largely on referral transactions which speaks a lot about the experience he provides his clients.

We can wholeheartedly say you’ll likely enjoy your experience with Tim. Change is hard and especially so when it’s something like moving which can cause a lot of stress. It’ll be useful to have an experienced real estate agent to help you along and be a professional help. Tim shares that his desire is to make a stressful time a little less stressful; especially with a smile like his.

Mr.Wray arrived in Vancouver almost 9 years back in 2007 and has been working in real estate since. Prior to his real estate experience, Tim, has broad top management experience in San Francisco and London along with large contract negotiations; a realtor has to be a jack of all trades sometimes and a keen eye which Tim has displayed with his work experience. He is familiar with the downtown Vancouver core where his expertise lies. Engaging Tim as your real estate agent, you can expect professionalism, understanding, and honesty. Tim works with Prompton Real Estate Services which makes him a one-stop solution for investment properties.

Much like Mike, Tim shares our believes that a sustainable and profitable business is one that adds value to your customers/clients. It’s about creating value and providing great service with integrity. Tim does this for his clients. Tim shares that his mission is to provide such an seamless and wonderful experience that you want to tell your friends because you believe it’ll help them. (much like what we’re doing here.)

At VancityAsks.com, we spend hours upon hours to verify we have genuinely created the best lists we can. Each real estate agent we featured on this list is thoroughly checked and Tim is no exception.

Mike Dente real estate

2) Mike Dente: Mike Dente is a born and bred Vancouverite who is now a
Vancouver real estate agent after completing his education at Sauder School of Business. Having lived his whole live in West Vancouver, this gives Mike an unusual advantage with this locality; buyers/sellers will appreciate his commitment, contacts, and knowledge of the North Shore real estate. Despite his experience in the North Shore, Mike serves clients across the greater Vancouver with the same diligence and integrity for which we have ranked him #2 on our list of the best realtors in Vancouver.

Mike is part of the Dexter Realty brokerage team while operating as a personal real estate agent in Vancouver, enabling him extensive support and specialized expertise as part of a leading brokerage firm in Vancouver.

Keep in mind that all real estate agents featured on our VancityAsks.com list are extensively checked. We try to get to know the brokers values and track record. Another point as we emphasized earlier, that honesty and integrity are the most important traits to find in a realtor. This is the reason Mike is the #2 best Vancouver real estate agent who resonates these same values of honesty and integrity. The Vancouver real estate agent also emphasizes on customer service and integrity.

Mike is however several years newer to the real estate field relative to the other heavy weights on the list. However, from our brief interaction with Mike, you get the impression that this determined realtor cares about his clients and experienced for his time in realty. As the icing on the cake, Mike emphasizes his interest with providing after sales support and building relationships. If you need a realtor in Vancouver, it’s hard to go wrong with giving Mike a chance.

Vancouver Real Estate Charlie Kiers

4) Charlie Kiers: Charlie Kiers is noted as one of the industry leaders in Vancouver real estate. Respected by other real estate agent as a man who works tirelessly for his clients and equally passionate about leadership and community involvement, Mr.Kiers has rightfully earned an impressive reputation in Vancouver real estate.

Charlie operates his real estate business with integrity as all the other realtors listed on our best Vancouver real estate agent list. The man is also highly networked and connected (don’t know how but apparently I have him on LinkedIn too). This helps his clients by providing a comprehensive realty solution.

If you’re buying a home, expect Charlie to go the extra mile researching the ideal homes for your choosing and then walk you through each tour. Some of his clients have noted as many as 15 viewings (don’t worry, if you don’t have the time for this many viewings, just let Charlie know – he’s attentive to his clients’ needs.) For those looking to sell their Vancouver home, Charlie has significant experience with real estate sales in Vancouver including negotiating, promoting, network usage, and problem resolution should a matter arise. It is so important to have the right realtor to guide you through this complicated process and especially useful to have their experience if a complicated situation comes up. We’ve listed Charlie as the #4 best real estate agent in Vancouver for good reason though some of his clients think he should be 1st (it’s taken though).

The importance of a good Vancouver realtor:

As a further emphasis on the importance of choosing the right real estate agent (and the propensity for bad real estate agents). I can recall a personal experience from family who engaged a Vancouver real estate agent while still yet in Toronto. They trusted the realtor to help find an investment property in the tri-cities. The real estate agent recommended a condo and advised against a townhouse that would have been a better purchase investment wise. It was discovered later, the condo offered realty agents a higher commission. The price of the condo has remained about the same since purchasing while the townhouse has similar properties selling much higher from the would-be purchase price. While this individual wanted initially to purchase the townhouse, he was advised strongly against doing so by the real estate agent. This re-emphasizes the importance of choosing a Vancouver real estate broker who will look out for your best interest; a broker who has integrity. As we like to emphasize on VancityAsks.com, true success comes only with excellence and delivering value; it’s about the long run beyond the temporary gains. (One may gain a few thousand extra but lose out on their reputation and further business opportunity. After all, it’s good to help others) This is why we hope to discover and feature those who strive for excellence in our articles.

We have looked extensively, sought personal recommendations, and believe we have identified some of the best real estate agents in Vancouver. Considerations were given for industry experience, reviews & reputation, knowledge, network, and character. If you’re looking for a reliable real estate broker, I encourage you to contact these professional realtors.

The usage of the word realtor in this article denotes an individual’s affiliation as a member of the NAR/CREA.

How to choose the right Vancouver real estate agent:

…it’s more than sales performance. Here are further readings you may be interested in to find out the importance of choosing the right Vancouver real estate agent. Someone performance as a “top real estate agent” doesn’t necessary imply a good real estate agent:

http://www.theprovince.com/business/selling+vancouver+realtor+licence+cancelled+after+allegedly+doing+business+while+under/11647443/story.html

When choosing the right Vancouver real estate agent, consider our list above that takes in to consideration (1) integrity (2) character and willingness to help (3) connections and networks (4) marketing and diligence (5) experience. When you’re looking to buy a home in Vancouver, you don’t want a Vancouver real estate agent to rush you into buying just to close a deal and get their commission. When you’re looking to sell a home, you want a real estate agent who would be able to represent your property best and get the best bid for you! (Which may differ depending on your priorities.) Either ways, you want a Vancouver real estate agent who will take your personal interests into consideration and look beyond the commission and care about you!

Top 5 Breakfast Buffets in Vancouver

Published by:

Well, this is an unusual list isn’t it? What use would you have to read about the best breakfast buffet in Vancouver?

Personally, I’m a huge sucker for breakfast buffets. It combines being Singaporean where food is culturally celebrated and enjoying hotel breakfast buffets growing up. I figured if it’s such an experience and enjoyment, you would too…or maybe not. Regardless, what better motivation to wake up early on the weekend than to indulge yourself with some delicious eggs, bacon, and coffee?

Most brunch and breakfast buffets you find in Vancouver today are founded within hotel restaurants. Now, this won’t do by Anthony’s Bourdain standards (who apparently avoids hotel buffets) and unfortunately the hotel buffets in Vancouver are not liken to the Grand Hyatt in Singapore…still, I’m hopeful these five suggestions will pass the grade.

Here are five of the best breakfast/brunch buffet in Vancouver (that still exists; it’s getting rarer to find brunch buffets in Vancouver these days).

1) Globe @ YVR – Fairmont YVR: The Globe @ YVR has found it’s way back onto our lists again. This time, we’re giving it the #1 spot for the best breakfast buffet in Vancouver.

The spread for breakfast at Globe includes smoke salmon, fruit, frittatas, breakfast meats, waffles and an omelet station among other things. Fairly ordinary fare for an extraordinary breakfast however what really edges Globe @ YVR to the top for the best Vancouver breakfast/brunch buffet is their floor to ceiling runway views.

Globe @ YVR is an award winning restaurant where you can enjoy your breakfast at YVR airport in elegance while you catch views of planes landing and taking off behind the backdrop of the sea (and a little bit of mountain).

The Fairmont always tries to outdo their breakfast experience. The Globe@YVR makes for a great breakfast buffet option in Vancouver.

Hours – 6:00 AM to 11:00 (M-F) & 12:00 (Sat-Sun)

Price $32.00 per person

2) Oru – Fairmont Pacific Rim: The Fairmont hotels are infamous for their decked out breakfast buffets. It’s like the Grand Hyatt buffets of Vancouver.

The best part being, most of their hotel bookings, specifically at Fairmont Pacific Rim, includes free breakfast with your stay; however, if you’re not planning on shelling hundreds for a stay at Fairmont hotels, you can still enjoy their breakfast spread for $36 per person. ($38 per person for brunch).

It seems a lot for breakfast but it’s well worth the price tag. The spread includes house-made breakfast sausage, house-made turkey sausage, house-made BACON, eggs, fresh pastries, cold spread like smoke salmon, and fruits.

Add on to that a Benny Bar and you got a five star breakfast buffet. Most places have an omelet station but Oru at the Fairmont Pacific Rim takes it further with a Benny Bar. A chef will freshly craft you a egg Benedict made to order. Not just any eggs Benedict either, you got selections like Pac Rim “Benny” with real dungeness crab meat, better than your California roll. (which despite it’s name, was actually invented in Vancouver by Tojo’s).

Hours – 6:30 AM to 11:00 AM Monday to Fridays, 6:30 AM to 10:00 AM Saturdays and Sundays (Brunch Buffet starts at 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM)

Price – $36 per person for breakfast, $38 per person for brunch

3) Oceans 999 – Pan Pacific Hotel:

As far as buffet goes, Oceans 999 is better known for their Sunday brunch or Opera buffet although it’s also worth a visit for their breakfast buffet.

Oceans 999 makes it onto the #3 best breakfast/brunch buffets for good reason. Their spread of high quality breakfast foods will fuel your day right. You have eggs Benedict, made to order omelets, big sausages, bacon, smoke salmon, waffles, a variety of juice, smoothies, and fresh fruits among other things. While the pricing at Oceans 999 may be high, the restaurant really emphasizes on quality ingredients and great service.

This Canadian themed restaurant sits right by the waterfront at Canada Place in the Pan Pacific Hotel; enjoy great sea views with your breakfast. It is well worth the experience placing Oceans 999 breakfast and brunch buffets #3.

(Oceans 999 was formally known as Cafe Pacifica before its recent re-branding. The food, views, and service remain equally phenomenal – if not better. Go try it out for yourself.)

Hours – 6:30 AM to 10:00 AM Mondays to Sundays, Brunch on Sundays at 11:30 AM to 2:00 PM.

Price – $29.50 per person

4) Arc Restaurant – Fairmont Waterfront: We’re back with another Fairmont brand hotel at #4. The Arc Restaurant is pricey but it has some incredible options for a breakfast or brunch buffet.

While the Arc Restaurant may not have the views like Cafe Pacifica or Cloud 9 Revolving Restaurant, it does have good breakfast spread and even better service for a breakfast buffet.

You’ll find fresh honey comb from their own bee keeping operations to go with your freshly baked bread. This goes along with your standard spread for a breakfast buffet of fresh fruits, pastries, eggs, and meats.

It’s well worth the visit even if to taste the fresh honey!

Price – $32.00 per person

Hours – 6:30 AM to 10:30 AM Monday to Friday, 6:30 AM to 11:00 AM Saturday and Sunday.

5) Cloud 9 Revolving Restaurant – Empire Landmark Hotel: Cloud 9 Revolving Restaurant is located on the 42nd floor of the Empire Landmark Hotel. While the breakfast spread may not be spectacular, dining on the 42nd floor for $19.95 is an experience in itself.

The Empire Landmark Hotel is in the West End with an unmistakable rounded top. This is where the Cloud 9 Revolving Restaurant sits.

As far as the breakfast buffet goes, you have your standard fare for hotel breakfast buffet with a variety of meats (bacon & sausage), scrambled eggs, french toast, pastries, fresh fruits, and coffee.

Enjoy great view of Vancouver downtown from the 42nd floor with your breakfast or brunch. Note that while the restaurant will not be revolving during breakfast times, you’ll still enjoy a magnificent experience (if it’s sunny in Vancouver).

Hours – 6:00 AM to 10:30 AM Monday to Sunday (from May 3rd)

Price – $19.95 per person

Best Notaries in Vancouver

Published by:

Are you looking for a notary services in Vancouver? If you need certified true copies, contracts, agreements, purchase of a business, power of attorneys, will preparation, and attestations then a Vancouver notary public is your bid. If you’re looking to buy or sell your home, a notary public can also assist with handling the sale much like a lawyer might. Many legal offices can also provide these services as well although you may prefer going with one of these public notaries for cost and service.

Here’s a full list of services that a BC notary can provide:

http://www.notaries.bc.ca/resources/showContent.rails?page=Services%20BC%20Notaries%20Provide

There are no shortages of notaries in Vancouver. You’ll find well over 70 notary public offices in downtown Vancouver alone. It can be an over whelming choice.

Still, don’t just hire any notary public services. It’s important to carefully consider which you hire for your administrative and notary services. While it may be best just to find one nearest to you for convenience, as with any occupation and field there are varying levels of service quality, pricing, and individuals. When it comes to contracts and notarizations, you don’t want any errors or headaches in the process.

Here are some individuals who had the unfortunate experience of picking a bad notary:

“I incurred a few hundred dollars in penalties and interest charges in order to fix this situation, including getting a 2nd bank draft when the numbers she gave me were incorrect.  “ – Anna L.

“I used Pat Wright for the purchase of two properties. She screwed up both transactions. I’m extremely well organized and gave Pat very comprehensive files complete with a detailed reconciliation…..yet she still managed to screw up the transaction.” – Terry R.

“On the statement of charges, there was a fee of nearly $400 listed as “Other fees”. When I asked about it, they brushed me off and told me they will obtain details of the fees later.” – James A.

As much as “BC Notaries” association states that notaries are esteemed members of the public who uphold to the highest standards of integrity and trust, you’ll find that there are plenty of the public who have had unpleasant experiences with notaries.

Even still, you may run into several dishonest reviews online without your best intentions (unlike VancityAsks.com 😉 – typically you only can trust the consistently bad reviews without doing further fact checking.) If a business has faked reviews, we have automatically removed it from consideration for dishonesty. Reviews are diligently checked for truthfulness and validity.

Make sure you find a right notary office for your real estate, power of attorneys, and notarization needs who will provide a reputable standard of service. Note as well that notary service prices are not standardize so each notary office will charge their own fees as they choose.

Thankfully at VancityAsks.com, we’re going to help you find a great Vancouver notary public for your needs. Here’s what we’re looking for: (1) excellence service (2) availability (3) prices. Any of these proven notary public offices in Vancouver will serve you well.

1) Yoshida Notary Public: The Yoshida Notary Public office is located right downtown at 900 Howe Street, conveniently besides the law courts and UBC Robson.

In regards to availability, Mr.Yoshida, as you will find cares about his clients. He goes out of the way to fit your schedule. Mr.Yoshida office is open from Monday to Friday from 8:30 AM to 6 PM or Saturday from 10:30 AM to 2:30 PM. If you cannot make it within those time-frames you may wish to email Mr.Yoshida to inquire if his schedule permits an alternate time. It seems that this man works hard to get work done for his clients.

Where price concerns, Notary Public prices differ by individual notary offices and services rendered. For the services, I required, Mr.Yoshida prices were right about the standard I had been quoted elsewhere. It’s best you contact their offices to inquire about your notary needs and quotes. (Curtis Yoshida can be contacted via email at (curtis@notarydowntown.ca)

Finally with service, the service I experienced at Yoshida Notary Public was impeccable. Curtis Yoshida was approachable and considerate. Curtis Yoshida is an individual who is personable and friendly. This matters as you want someone who listens and attentive when handling your documents or notary public services.

Best Donuts in Vancouver

Published by:

Delicious Vancouver donuts, the best in Vancouver

Sometimes your sweet tooth wants some carbs and that’s when donuts are your perfect pick. Yet, if you’re going to cheat on your diet and pluck up those calories, you may as well do it for something worth it. As Dr. Leslie Tay of the ieatishootipost blog in Singapore likes to say, “don’t waste your calories on yucky food”.

Here are five places you can indulge yourself with the best donuts in Vancouver:

1) Cartems Donuterie: Cartems is without a doubt, hands down, the best donut Vancouver has to offer. It’s a cool donut shop in Gastown at 534 West Pender. The small nook is nestled between some shops.

The Donuterie is known for their unique flavors like the infamous Canadian Whiskey bacon or the one I’ll be trying next time, “triple chocolate threat”.

The ingredients at Cartems are source as locally as possible among other things. Beyond their upbeat logo is also a friendly person happy to strike up a conversation and make you feel welcome as you enjoy your cup of coffee and savor the $3 donut in their small but brightly colored shop.

2) Lee’s Donuts: It seems like a really unassuming store by an exit at Granville Island market but don’t be mistaken, these donuts are easily the best in Vancouver.

You have your typical honey dip, chocolate, and maple glaze – the staples. Although there are also more flavors like honey dew, Bavarian cream, or  dutch chocolate. Fancy! I think once I even tried their maple, bacon doughnut about two or three years back? Anyways, the point is that Lee’s Donuts have been esteemed as a fine donuts establishment for a long time, well before Cartems and Lucky’s came about (as great as they are).

There may be the occasional times you end up get a room-temp donut though if you come in the peak periods, the donuts are typically freshly fried and incredibly delicious. Service is typically good.

3) Lucky’s Donuts: Lucky’s Donut is a product of 49th Parallel Coffee Roasters which is also on our list for the best cafe in Vancouver. The donuts ring in at about $3.50, much like Cartems. They have a coffee and donut combo running at $5 for 12 oz of freshly brewed caffeine with any doughnut of your choice.

Once again liken to Cartems Donuterie, Lucky’s Donuts are infamous for their unique and extravagant flavors such as Creme Brûlée, salted caramel, PB&J, or how about apple bacon fitter?

Lucky Donuts once again emphasizes on natural ingredients for donuts that are freshly made throughout the day. Who could complain with that? They found their start on twitter in June 2012 after years of intent and months of construction as noted on their website to build out the artistic location where Lucky’s Donuts is right now on Main St.

Their coffee aren’t that bad either, so we hear 😉

4) Duffin’s Donut: In Vancouver, there aren’t many places you go for a late night supper. That is unless it’s Duffin Donuts.

Duffin’s Donuts is a unique establishment in Vancouver that serves donuts along with Chinese food, Mexican food, and a host of other cuisines on their diverse menu…24 hours! Their menu may even be as international as Vancouver. To imagine they offer this 24 hours, round the clock is quite an achievement, well deserving of our top 5 list for the best donuts in Vancouver.

While the donuts are good, they aren’t the fancy types like Cartems or Lucky’s. You may as well grab your bubble tea and Chinese take out while you venture to this shop at the cross roads of Knight and 41st Street. The exterior and shop itself may have seen better days, but the heart and soul (the food) is still on par.

If you can’t decide between Chinese food or donuts, then your pick is Duffin’s Donuts because you never know when you might want fried chicken, donuts, hot tortas, and bubble tea in one go!

5) Outpost’s Mini Donuts: Outpost’s Mini donuts is out of the way at Stevenson but while you’re there, grab some fish n chips from Pajo’s or pizza from Steveston Pizza Co.

Outpost’s Mini Donuts will allow you to reminiscence the hot summer nights at the PNE when Vancouver’s weather wasn’t so depressing. It’s the bite you go for when you want to remember what Vancouver can be like. No, in reality, we listed Outpost’s Mini Donuts because they had bacon in their mini donuts! That’s a plus by any standards (though it isn’t kosher)

Outpost’s donuts puts a unique twist to the traditional mini donuts you see at carnivals and events. The cake donuts come in seasonal flavors (which at the moment includes Lemon, Bluberry, Boston Cream, Raspberry Chocolate, and Coconut). The prices here are much easier to digest; it’s only $7.50 for a baker’s dozen (13) and $4.75 for half a dozen.

There you have it, the best donuts in Vancouver as rated on VancityAsks.com. It’s pretty much a consensus that these are the best donuts in Vancouver (#1-4 namely).

As far as fancy donuts goes you don’t have many choices in Vancouver. Thankfully there’s Tim’s and you know we like giving away Tim Hortons gift cards on this website because we enjoy Tim Horton’s so much (how can you not? It’s like a Canadian staple especially if you grew up in the East). Their donuts are not half that bad also.

Random Fact – Ever wondered why Baker’s Dozen was 13? Where did it come from?

Here’s your answer: “King Henry III was so irked by the problem that he implemented a new law to standardize the weight of a loaf—selling puny loaves could result in beatings or jail time. Since bakers wanted to stay on the right side of the law, one common trick was to give 13 loaves to any customer buying a dozen”

Looks like Subways could learn a thing or two. Never really liked Subways myself anyways.

It’s a donut, but it’s not:

Here are two stores that you may be interested in trying out if you’re looking for Vancouver’s best donuts. They aren’t really donuts so we couldn’t put them on the list but they fit the bill:

Swiss Bakery – Hands down the best cronut in Vancouver. It was initially the brainchild of a New York baker, Dominique Ansel back in 2013. It’s what happens if a donut and a constant had a child; you got the best of the fluffy, buttery texture of a croissant with the sweet-tooth toppings of a doughnut. The name cronut is actually even trademarked by dominique so Swiss Bakery calls theirs a frissant. I care not the name so long as it’s good.

Swiss Bakery Frissiant as Vancouver best donuts.

Chocolate heart shape frissant which is basically Vancouver’s version of a donut+crossiant breeding.

Address – 143 E 3rd Ave, Vancouver, BC V5T 1C7

Chewy Junior – Ah Chewy Junior. You see this store all over Singapore at City Hall Raffles shopping center and most other major shopping centers. It’s pretty much like a chewy donut but better. You have the crisp crunch on the outside with a chewy center (not like under cook dough but uniquely satisfying) typically with a creamed filling. It’s great if you’re looking for a doughnut with a little more bite. Not really a donut but still deliciously hits the spot. Thankfully it has made it’s way around to Vancouver at 508 West Cordova Street right outside Waterfront station to your left.

It looks way better in person BTW. Give Chewy Junior a visit at 508 W Cordova.
